Train Speed Monitoring – HMAVR

HMAVR Doppler RADAR System

HMAVR is a multi-directional doppler RADAR system with an accuracy of ± 0.5%. It monitors actual train speed from either incoming or outgoing direction on a single-line track. It is mounted at a location on either side of the track, and provides speed data through a local PC or directly to a PLC system via MODBUS TCP or an analogue output using a 4-20mA interface.

A standard system is typically used for train loading operations and caters for speeds between 0.3 km/h and 16 km/h with communication direct with the control system and PC through a local ethernet connection, preferably through an ethernet switch.

Configuration, Monitoring and Troubleshooting of the system, including IP setup, data smoothing, Incoming/Outgoing direction swapping, analogue output adjustments, system status and historical trend data for up to the last 5 trains are carried out through the included PC program. The program can also be used for instant diagnostics and to display the instantaneous speed being detected.

The system requires 24VDC power, an Ethernet connection and a 3-wire cable for the 4-20mA analogue output (if used). As such, it requires very little power to run (~140mA), which can be supplied by either a local power supply or a separate solar/battery system.

Considering train speed is measured using RADAR, accurate feedback is provided without being affected by external environmental sources such as dust, rain or fog.

The design is such, that teaching is not required as it will work directly out of the box. With the PC program (supplied) it can be fine-tuned after installation through the user friendly Graphic User Interface to suit the individual site requirements and train configurations.
